The project EURAU is constituted within a network of schools and researchers in Architecture and Urbanism, meeting every two years to share the status of their investigation. In the long-term, it is intended to lead to the creation of a physical meeting and deposit space with all the research undertaken and ongoing in Europe to facilitate the sharing of resources and deepening of knowledge in these scientific areas.

The main concern of the EURAU is to establish itself as a place of debate and discussion of thematic disciplines of Architecture, City and Town Planning.

The theme of EURAU12 will be "Public Space and Contemporary City".

Indeed, the contemporary city has attracted a diverse and complex theoretical debate by different areas of knowledge. Interpretations of the reason for its diffuse form and dispersed growth, reassessment of the significance of its architecture and its public space, the statement of theoretical foundations that define it as a new urban entity - the ongoing debate is clarifying opinions, establishing disciplinary differences and inducing reflections that leave us far from a dogmatic and uncritical posture and allow the construction of a non-reducing rationale of the new paradigms.

In this sense, EURAU12 is intended to develop the discussion of public space as a fundamental element in building an idea of the contemporary city. In order to achieve it, we propose three stqrting points:

1. Construction of a collective memory, the fundamental value of urbanity: public space as a condition of making the city;

2. Systems of connection between the consolidated city and new urbanized areas: public space as builder of urban fabric;

3. A shape for the contemporary city: public space as an element of an urban order.
